GBA led the redevelopment of the first teaching hospital in Canada to be built as a public-private partnership, the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre.

As the redevelopment manager for the Royal Ottawa Health Care Group (ROHCG), GBA led the team in all aspects of the project, with the ROHCG taking occupancy of its new facility in November 2006, six weeks ahead of schedule and on budget.

GBA imagined the solution and assembled the best partners required for the management of this ground-breaking pilot project from conception through to completion and opening day.

The project activities led by GBA included the development of :

•    A Business Case and Redevelopment Master Plan determining      the overall role and the path to a  successful redevelopment

•    A Functional Program and Output Specifications developed to      meet the hospital’s changing needs as Eastern Ontario’s      specialized mental health care facility

•    A Value for Money Benchmark, ensuring the ROHCG received      the facility it required at a price Ontario could afford

•    A Request for Qualifications and Proposal resulting in the      selection of the hospital’s choice of long-term partners

•    A Funding Agreement negotiated between the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care and the ROHCG

•    Project Agreements negotiated on behalf of the ROHCG ensuring patients of Eastern Ontario received a world-class care and research facility, designed,      built, financed and maintained over a 23-year lease period (contracting included long-term, non-clinical, facilities management services arrangements)

•    Project management for design, construction, commissioning and the demolition of existing buildings

•    Implementation of Wireless IT/Telephony services

•    A Move Management plan for staff and patients into the new facility

•    Removal and restoration of furniture, fixtures, and equipment as per current clinical standards

•    Award-winning strategic communications planning and implementation to ensure the redevelopment was successful

•    The project management of a new 96-bed long term care facility built concurrently and adjacent to the Royal Ottawa Mental Health Centre
