The Canadian Fallen Firefighters Foundation secured federal and private donation funding to institute a national memorial in the nation’s capital, dedicated to honouring the memory of Canada’s fallen firefighters.

GBA provided project management services to coordinate design procurement and selection, design approvals, construction management of the Memorial, and close-out processes for the project. GBA also provided leadership on the following:

  • Negotiations with the National Capital Commission, who donated land on Lebreton Flats in Ottawa for the Memorial, on the acquisition of the land and the transfer of the Memorial back to the NCC to maintain in perpetuity
  • The communications strategy supporting the unveiling and dedication by Canada’s Governor General on September 11, 2012, the land and Memorial has been transferred back to the NCC to manage in perpetuity
  • The committee review of potential Memorial designs by a technical/financial panel and a design jury
  • The selection of the winning artist/design team of Douglas Coupland/PLANT Architects Inc.
